JAS Participated in the Juneau Time Capsule

The JAS was represented in the Juneau time capsule that was closed on December 31, 1994 and is scheduled to be re-opened in 2094. Donna Dorhn suggested that we dedicate the December newsletter to the people of 2094. So it was done. Enclosed in the time capsule was our december newsletter, a group photo from the December meeting, a pair of handmade fish earings, a retail price list for a basic 20 gallon aquarium setup in Juneau.

It is exciting to think that JAS has left a calling card on the people of 2094. It is facinating to wonder if the people of 2094 are even going to indulge in hobbies like aquariums? If so what species will they keep. How many species will still exist? If future generations do continue to participate in the hobby, think of all the technical advancements that they will accomplish in the hobby. This is where aquarium hobbiests of today can have an effect. By breeding more species in capitivity we can help to insure that aquarium fish will be arround for a long time to come. By supporting conservation efforts we can ensure that common species and hopefully even the rare ones will still be around in a hundred years.
