Most experienced hobbyists will tell you that live foods, when available are the best alternative for your fishes diet. Due to our winter climate in Juneau it is almost impossible to go out and dig up earth worms from the frozen ground. A simple alternative is to try frozen foods. I have had good luck in using frozen foods. I find that the fish get more excited about eating, and using frozen foods improves the fish colors and health. I do not use them exclusively because they are expensive. But, I use them several times a week. Most good dealers have a large selection to offer, from Brine Shrimp, Blood Worms, and Krill to special diet blends for Fresh and Marine tanks. Give it a try, your fish will love you for it. Just be careful not to over feed.
